About

To be true to my faith, therefore, I may not write in anger or malice. I may not write idly. I may not write merely to excite passion. The reader can have no idea of the restraint I have to exercise week to week in the choice of my topics and vocabulary. It is training for me. It enables me to peep into myself and to make discoveries of my weakness. Often my vanity dictates a smart expression or my anger a harsh adjective. It is a terrible ordeal but a fine exercise to remove these words. – M.K.Gandhi, Young India, July 2, 1925

Another attempt on blogging, yet again filled with lofty ideals. The blog is an attempt to chronicle the next 100 or so days during which I would be preparing myself for the Comrades marathon. Some of the entries are written retrospectively.

The title of this blog ‘The Banner’ was adapted from the R.K.Narayan novel ‘Mr.Sampath – the printer of Malgudi’. The Banner had a pretty sad ending in the novel but the hero’s hard work behind starting and running the venture was very interesting and inspiring. His attempt to keep it unique and free from hypocrisy was laudable. The story was actually an adaptation of RKN’s attempt to start one such magazine.
